Bognor stitchers show support for breast cancer patients

The four-strong team – Christine Edwards, Lyn Wright, Julie Root and Brenda Wakeham – is known as the Bosom Pals and spent 18 months stitching the quilt, which was then offered as the main prize in a raffle.

They were thrilled at the £2,658 raised, which meant £1,329 each for Worthing Hospital’s Butterflies breast cancer support group, and the hospital’s breast unit.

Mrs Edwards said: “We are more than happy with the final amount.”

Along with their mascot, Christopher the bear, the friends, who have all either had breast cancer or a scare, said making the quilt was a way of getting together and doing something positive.

The cheques, presented at a Butterflies group meeting, were received by Riccardo Bonomi, consultant breast clinic surgeon, on behalf of the hospital breast unit, and by Jim Nelson, chairman, on behalf of Butterflies.

The quilt was won by Mrs P Prosser. The winners of two other patchwork prizes were Mrs S Owen and Mrs P Wright.
