Bognor street evacuated after car hits gas main

A car crashed into a house in Bognor Regis, rupturing a gas main and causing the evacuation of an entire street in the early hours of this morning.

As many as 30 people living in Gravits Lane had to be evacuated to Felpham Leisure Centre following the incident.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said a car went into a single property at around 2am on Monday, April 11.

No one in the house affected was injured, and no one was trapped in the car, though a man was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital, the spokeswoman added.

The residents were still at the leisure centre at 4.43am when the fire service handed the incident over to police and the gas supplier.

It is unclear if they have been allowed back to their homes.
