Bogus officer thrown out

An alert 93-year-old woman threw a bogus policeman out of her Middleton home. The conman, pictured here, is being hunted by police after the attempted burglary in Ashmere Lane. His image was released by the police as they sought witnesses to the incident.

The suspected burglar claimed to be a police officer when he knocked on the pensioner's front door and entered her home. He told her he had caught youths breaking into the building.

But the alert homeowner challenged him and asked him to leave.
