Bomb disposal team called to peaceful street

Residents were amazed to see Army bomb disposal experts arrive to deal with a live grenade found in a quiet Bexhill road on Tuesday.

The owners of the house in Wentworth Close found the device while emptying the loft.

They called the police just after 5pm.

Police in turn called for the Royal Logistics Corp, who took the grenade away for it to be destroyed.

Residents were given the all clear at 7.30pm having been asked to stay in their homes.

Inspector James Scott of Bexhill Police confirmed the grenade was still live and could have gone off if the pin had been removed.
