Bonfire Boyes fundraising weekend back with a bang

A FUNDRAISING weekend, held in aid of Battle’s bonfire celebrations, will make a triumphant return this summer.

The Battel Bonfire Boyes are fine tuning their preparations for this year’s Battle Summer Fayre Weekend which will again include two evenings of musical entertainment, dog show, craft show and summer carnival procession.

The fun weekend starts on Friday June 28 with a barn dance in a marquee on Battle Recreation Ground.

Revellers will dance the night away to the sounds of the Catsfield Steamers between 7-11pm.

Following the success of last year’s event, the town carnival will return on Saturday June 29.

Floats, youth groups, dance groups and bands will form a procession which will travel from the recreation ground in North Trade Road through the town to the Abbey Green before returning to the rec to herald the start of the Summer Fayre at midday.

The Summer Fayre itself, as in previous years, will include a dog show with a minimum of 10 classes where dogs can be entered on the day for showing.

There will also be a craft show with numerous craft, trade and general stalls of interest, together with smaller fun fair rides.

Live music will be provided during the afternoon together with a barbecue, bar and refreshments.

The Summer Fayre will once again be sponsored by Crowhurst Park Holiday Village.

The day will be rounded off with a musical evening in the marquee with local band The 1066 Rockitmen.

The group will be back by popular demand, with at least two other bands supporting them.

The music will start at 7pm and go on until 11.30pm, with a licensed bar and hot food available.

If last year’s sell-out musical evening was anything to go by, organisers say the night will be spent rocking away.

Entry to the Summer Fayre will be free but donations would be welcomed.

Free on-field parking will be available.

Tickets for both the barn dance and music night will be available in early May via www.bbbevents.com or from Alan Hunting Associates in Mount Street, Battle.

Tickets for each event cost £10 for adults and £25 for a family ticket - with a free drink for the adults if booked in advance.

The event is being staged as part of the annual fundraising campaign to raise the £20,000 needed to put on the Battle Bonfire Night celebrations this November.

Over the past three years, nearly £15,000 has been collected from the bonfire night procession street collections, all of which was donated to local causes and charities.

Anyone interested in joining the town carnival (free of charge) or buying a pitch at the craft show, email [email protected] or call 07976 254247.
