Bonfire celebrations start in the Rye area

NO solution has been found to save Winchelsea’s Bonfire celebrations which were to have taken place on Saturday night.

But there are still plenty of bangs and excitement to look forward to in the Rye area.

Winchelsea Bonfire Boyes were forced to cancel their planned celebration after a local farmer refused permission to use Rookery Field, the site of the bonfire for over a decade.

But bonfire revellers in the Rye area looking for a display to light up the sky on Saturday evening should head to the Cock Inn at Peasmarsh where a large , free firework display takes place.

The pub will be offering take-away food and the restaurant will be open.

Monday sees traditional bonfire celebrations taking place at Icklesham from 6.30pm, when The Robin Hood Bonfire Society hosts its celebration on the field adjacent to the Robin Hood pub.
