Southover Bonfire Society held its first ever costume competition on Sunday, October 11 at Caffe Lazzati based at the Southdown Sports Club in Lewes.
Event organiser Richard Hawley said: “I attended the BONCO costume competition at the Town Hall last year and felt Southover could be much better represented. I devised a costume competition for the society and we had 43 entrants; each receiving a specially created badge. I am now hoping to attend this year with lots of members showing off their finery.” The worthy winners were Sasha McGillivray (children;) Jon Walter (First Pioneer, Monks;) and Joan and Paul Woollard (Second Pioneer, Buccaneers.) Southover Bonfire Society was re-formed 10 years ago and has now become an established, respected and popular Lewes society with a core membership of more than 600. It’s a family friendly society and this year, as well as hooded monks, the parade will feature a wide variety of medieval costumes.
