Book awards

Pupils from primary schools across the County will gather in Eastbourne next week to find out the result of the East Sussex Children's Book Award.

Children from 26 East Sussex primary schools will be attending the award ceremony which is being staged at Ocklynge Junior School, Victoria Drive, Eastbourne on Wednesday 14 June from 1.30 '“ 3.00pm. The youngsters will find out which children's book from the six on the shortlist has come out on top.

The County Council's Schools Library Service and its School Improvement Service - run by CfBT '“ have organised the book award project to encourage children to read more widely and to promote reading for pleasure.

Council library staff have been busy visiting schools with the authors and running activities for reading groups. Lots of children have sent in reviews of their favourite books to help the selection process.

The six shortlisted titles are: Millions by Frank Boyce Cottrell, A dog called Grk by Joshua Doder, The Star of Kazan by Eva Ibbotson, Thora by Gillian Johnson, Wolf Brother by Michele Paver and Fergus Crane by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell.
