CAN YOU name that author of Winnie the Pooh? Or the Bronte sisters? Or the book that starts “Call me Ishmael”? Anyone who can answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions should get ready to test their knowledge at a special book-lovers quiz night sponsored by the award-winning Much Ado Books of Alfriston. Teams of up to six can compete to answer book-related questions set by Much Ado Books owners Cate Olson and Nash Robbins. “This will be a fun, relaxed evening,” promises Robbins. “Anyone who enjoys books has a chance.” But, he added, participants should be prepared to wrestle with some challenges as well. “It wouldn’t be a real quiz if it is too easy – we want to make sure the winning team earns their victory!” The couple have already begun planning the quiz, drawing on all aspects of books, authors’ lives and publishing history. A range of prizes will be on hand for the top teams to take home. Set for Wednesday, 1 June the evening will benefit both the Book Trade Charity and the Alfriston Pre-School. The tickets, costing £17.50, include a two-course supper at Deans Place Hotel in Alfriston. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are available from Deans Place Hotel, on 01323 870 248. The event is part of the shop’s celebrations of Independent Booksellers Week, 18 to 25 June. “We have so many events we wanted to put on that we couldn’t fit them all into just one week,” explained Robbins. Other events include a writing workshop and a workshop dedicated to creating peepshow dioramas from shoeboxes, inspired by favourite books. Details of these and other events are available on the website www.muchadobooks.com. More information is also available by calling Much Ado on 01323 871222.
