Book tells quirky tales of Littlehampton life

They came to hear journalist and broadcaster Allis Moss describe how she came to put her ‘Jigsaw Journey’ recollections together while learning to walk again following a back injury.

Her book uncovers quirky tales about the town’s history as well as sad episodes like meeting the family of a First World War soldier shot at dawn for alleged desertion during the conflict.

Allis’s talk was at Littlehampton Library, in Maltravers Road, the day before Remembrance Sunday, to mark 100 years since the outbreak of the 1914-18 war.

Speaking of her book, she said: “I spoke to people with family members who had fought in the trenches of the Western Front who recounted their stories.

“In the Second World War, there was the children’s home run by the wonderful nuns of St Joseph’s and the Army intelligence unit based in Littlehampton under the command of Ian Fleming.”
