During her year in office the Mayor of Peacehaven Rachael Coles has raised more than £11,000 to date for local groups and organisations.

During April a whopping sum of more than £7,000 has been awarded.

The mayor’s grants included a £1,000 donation to local ban Scott Free who tragically lost all their equipment and instruments in a fire at the Phoenix Theatre in Lewes during March.

The band played at Peacehaven Town Council’s first ever music festival in 2013 and were described by cllr Coles as a ‘great bunch of lads’.

The mayor personally met the band to hand over their cheque for £1,000.

Cllr Coles said: “I’m delighted to be able to support so many local groups and organisations with their fund raising efforts.

“All these groups and organisations support and bring to life the town for the residents that live here and they all do a fantastic job for our community.

“I would also like to thank the Co-Op for their fantastic support for my book stall that has taken over £5,000 from the sale of books and I would like to thank my civic officer, Debbie Donovan, who has given me fantastic support throughout the year with my fundraising efforts.”

Scott Free were setting up their equipment prior to a party at the theatre in Lewes when the fire broke out and people had to run for their lives. The theatre was destroyed.
