Bowls club raise £1,500 for Visualy Impaired Bowls England

WORTHING Indoor Bowls Club raised £1,500 in aid of Visually Impaired Bowls England in a recent charity day.

The day was organised by the recently appointed Worthing manager, Ken Woodcock, who was formerly acting chief executive of the English Bowling Association.

During the day, 20 teams played in two groups with the top team in each group receiving prizes, with the two winning teams Worthing Pavilion BC and Worthing IBC.

In addition, a large raffle was run by Wendy Davies and many members provided prizes to help the prize list.

A large number of spectators turned up to support the day, which raised £750. This was matched by Barclays Bank under their employee community matched funding scheme making up the total.

Woodcock said: “We chose this charity because one of our members here is a visually impaired bowler and his guide dog, Seb, has been used in the advertisements for the charity, so we felt it was appropriate to support this worthy cause. Also, it is the Guide Dog Association’s 80th anniversary this year.”
