The society is Swinton’s charity of the year and donated stock from the public and colleagues was collected at branches up and down the country on November 4.

Graham McKay, customer service manager, said: “On the south coast, we collected items from Basingstoke, Salisbury, Southampton, Eastleigh, Portsmouth, Bognor Regis and finally ended up in our Worthing branch.

“We then took the items to the Children’s Society shop in Salisbury.

“The Worthing and Bognor branches alone managed to collect 11 bags of donated goods and raised £30 from our Bake and Brew event in the afternoon.

“I know this will not sound like much but up and down the country we hope to have collected more than 100 bags of donated items and nearly £600 from our Bake and Brews. Swinton will also match this pound for pound, so the actual amount raised may well be over £1,000.”

At the start of the year, Swinton chose The Children’s Society as its charity of choice and this was just one of many events the firm has held to raise money.

Mr McKay added: “The Children’s Society is a fantastic charity that runs local projects, helping children and young people when they are at their most vulnerable.

“Swinton prides itself on the work it does with the local community and the charity work we do, both as a company and locally as branches.”
