Worthing Churches Homeless Projects, which serves Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham and Littlehampton, wants volunteers to abseil down the steep Peacehaven cliffs on Saturday, July 4, in its latest fundraising effort.

Claire Thomas, who took part in the event last year, said: “The event can be a real challenge, especially when you are standing at the top, harnessed up and the instructor is telling you to walk backwards when your in-built survival sense is telling you not to.

“I felt a real sense of achievement completing the abseil.”

Past participants have overcome fears of heights, have descended in fancy dress and have even used it as an event to celebrate weight loss.

The charity helps people who are homeless or insecurely housed. It provides a variety of help from advice over the phone, a hot breakfast and access to shower and laundry facilities through to accommodation and one-to-one counselling.
