BREAKING: Man dies after being hit by train near Seaford

A man has died after being hit by a train at a level crossing near Seaford today (February 15).

Emergency services, including paramedics, were called to reports of a man being hit by a train near the Tide Mills railway crossing at around 2.20pm.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said, “We were called to a location between Bishopstone station and Newhaven Harbour station on Monday, February 15, following reports of a person being hit by a train.

“Officers from BTP and Sussex Police attended the incident, which was reported at 2.22pm.

Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and a man believed to be in his 60s was later pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are working to inform the man’s family and will create a file for the coroner.”

Trains between Lewes and Seaford were cancelled for several hours while emergency services made the area safe.

Passengers between Brighton and Seaford can use Brighton and Hove bus routes 12+12A, until 5pm.

Rail replacement buses are also running between Lewes and Seaford until 5pm.
