BREAKING NEWS: Armed police seal off Worthing street

POLICE armed with rifles have sealed off Anscombe Close in Worthing following a domestic dispute.

Residents of the street were told to stay inside their homes and cars were stopped from entering the road.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "The police knocked on our door and told us to stay inside, but they wouldn't say what was happening.

"When I looked out the window I saw lots of officers with what looked like machine guns. It was really, really scary. It's not the sort of thing you expect to happen here."

Officers were called to the scene shortly after 6.10pm this evening (Friday, June 6), and two armed response units and two patrol cars were immediately dispatched.

A man was subsequently arrested and is currently in police custody. It is not yet known how old he is or exactly what happened.

Inspector Tim Piloni from Sussex Police said: "We were called to a domestic situation, in which there had been a mention of a firearm.
