The decision was made at the Combined Fire Authority AGM today (Thursday June 18).

Members of the Fire Authority voted in favour of the move.

A spokesman said, “Naturally, this move will result in closer working relationships between the fire & rescue service and the police and in turn this will create operational benefits, improved communications and a reduction in estate costs over the medium to longer term.

“The current HQ building in Eastbourne is owned by the authority and steps will be taken to achieve the best value option in regard to its disposal.

“It is estimated that the move to Lewes will take place over the next 12-18 months.”

The current fire service HQ is in Upperton Road, Eastbourne.
