A woman has died in a fire which devastated a house in Ringmer this morning (Friday, March 18).
Emergency services were called to Broyle Lane shortly before 5am to reports of a fire.
A woman, believed to have been the sole resident of the property, was found dead inside.
Officers from Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are currently conducting a joint investigation into the fire, which badly damaged the detached house.
Broyle Lane has been closed to traffic for most of the day while emergency services dealt with the fire and began enquiries into the cause.
The incident is currently being treated as unexplained.
Efforts have been hampered by structural damage which made it unsafe to enter the house until temporary repairs could be effected.
The victim’s next of kin have been told of her death and the coroner for East Sussex has also been informed.
Broyle Lane is expected to remain closed for some time and diversions have been put in place.
