Brede Village Spring Clean: unfortunately only three people tuned up, but a total of 7 helped overall; even though all of the community were notified the date and time in the Brede Council Newsletter and reminders were in this column. Despite this, a number of signs were washed and 10 and ½ bags of rubbish were collected. I would imagine one more bag was collected in the lay-by in Broadlands Row as a kind lady told me to leave it as she would do it. Those of us out on Saturday morning managed clear Broadlands Row, Northiam Road from the Lay-by to the Chicken farm and Brede Church to just beyond Brede Bridge. I also know that a number of you take a bag out with you and collect rubbish every week, Thank you everybody who help clean our lovely Parish. It makes a big difference to the Village. Although there were other areas that needed attention on Saturday it could not be managed by such a small team. My thanks to Jackie for clearing up after we had vacated the Village Hall and to the lady who tried to clean the gates of the Village Hall which I was told about later also that 2 people had been out the day before and had collected a couple of bags of rubbish from the Northiam Road Lay-by which is why it looked so clean when we arrived there. On Monday Rother District Council were notified that part of a car needed picking up and some other rubbish along Broadlands Row and Larger rubbish along Northiam Road after the bridge. East Sussex Highways were also contacted to sort out the 3 drain covers that were either not there or sticking up in the Road. One serious drain is on the Northiam Road on the opposite side of the road to the lay-by and a bit further along the grass verge. It has no cover and has a drop of about 4 foot, so please be aware as it is difficult to see. The other one needing attention it is about 12 foot away further along the grass verge. Opposite the entrance to Hows Close in Furnace Lane, there is another drain cover standing on end. It is not going to move but there is a big hole behind it.

Spring Flowers: Have you had the chance to travel along some of the lanes around the village? The banks under the hedgerow are full of spring flowers. The Primroses, Celandine, Wood Anemones and Milkmaids, it all looked so pretty, especially in the sunshine on Mothering Sunday. I do hope all you mums out there had a wonderful day. I did! thanks to my children and husband.

1st Brede Scout Group: is looking for Leaders for the Beaver and Cub section. If you feel you can spend 1hour and 1½ hours respectively once a week or even if you can help out, the current section leaders would be glad of the help as Cherry and Peter are running both sections at present. We have a thriving group and many children benefit greatly from belonging to the organisation, there is not much for children in the Village and we need to keep it going for their sakes. Friday 31 March: Brede Farmers Market 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall. A chance to go and see what is available and what tasty food you can buy. There is not only food there is also craft items and every two weeks plants are for sale. Occasionally you will see a green and white gazebo where the Frenchman sells all things French. Cheeses, Pâté etc. The log lady is there at the moment too.

WEA is at 11am in Udimore Community Hall and Short Mat Bowls is at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall.

Saturday 1 April: The Broad Oak Stores will not be officially opened today as they are not quite ready.

Great Dixter Plant Fair is a fundraising event for the Christopher Lloyd Bursary. The Bursary enables young gardeners to experience horticulture and plants. The event will be held on 1st and 2nd of April. Nurserymen from UK and France will be gathering to talk about their plants and sell them.

Emma’s Baby Princess Ballet for 3 to 6 year olds in Brede Village Hall at 10am.

The Village Dance is at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall if you wish to trip the light fantastic. Ballroom and Sequence dancing suitable for all.

Sunday 2 April: The Church Services are as follows: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass service at 9.00 am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road. Monday 3 April: Pilates with Laura at 9.15am, in Udimore Community Hall.

The Guiding section meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall; the Rainbows meet from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, Julie Piper can be contacted for both on 01424 883464 or mobile 07863 599537

The Brede Scout sections are all held in the Scout Hut Stubbs Lane.

The Whist players will be in action in Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm The 5k fun run will be taking place in Alexandra Park, Hastings. During the run, participants will pass through colour zones, where the Cheery Chuckers will shower them in different colours of a special 100% safe colour powder. Tickets will be available online from Monday 3rd April and are guaranteed to sell out quickly. Tuesday 4 April: Painting for Pleasure meet at 9.30am in Brede Village Hall.

Messy Church is at 4pm for children with an adult in Udimore Community Hall, followed at 6.30pm by Yoga.

Brede Scouts meet, from 7pm – 9pm in the Scout Hut and any young person 10½ or over is welcome.
