Picnic: It was disappointing to have to cancel the picnic in the recreation ground. Lesley and I took the decision after much deliberation and also the Duo did not want their instruments to get wet, which was understandable. We will schedule them and the picnic again, possibly at the end of next month and I think we will change the time so that you can all have your roast dinners and come to the recreation ground for an afternoon picnic tea 2.30pm – 5.00pm.

I will also book the Village Hall so if we have another downpour we can go there instead. Luckily the day on Sunday came out brighter in time for the Red Lion’s do and that was enjoyed by all who gathered there.

Feedback has been good about the two weeks and I have sent what we have been doing to celebrate Her Majesty‘s 90th Birthday to Buckingham Palace with a card from us all.

The Buttercups Nursery: will soon be moving out of the Scout Hut and into their new premises next to the School. This will be better for them in as much that they will not have to pack away their play things anymore. The children possibly will also benefit from being near their future Primary School and seeing the the pupils in the playground before they attend. It will also help parents who have a child at school and one in the nursery school. It will of course mean that the Scout Hut is available once more throughout the day if anyone needs to book a space. I am the booking clerk and you can contact me as above.

Friday 17 June: Pilates with Laura at 9.15am Brede Farmers Market in Brede Village Hall from 10am – 12noon, last week was delightful as the hall was festooned with flags and Vocality entertained those who were at the market and everyone joined in to sing Happy Birthday to her Majesty. This week will be back to normal with the stall holders ready to sell their wares. Julie McDonnell will also be there hoping you will sponsor the Bell Ringers walk. Last Sunday she took a call from the Vatican wishing her well and I believe the Vatican bells will be rung too. She has done amazingly well and all of us at St Georges are really proud of her efforts. This is her story:

Strike Back against Cancer. Julie McDonnell a very brave lady who is a Bell Ringer for Brede and other Churches in Sussex has leukaemia (CML) and is organising a national ringing event on 25th June 2016 to help raise vital funds for research and give other blood cancer sufferers a chance of life.

The aim is to raise £100,00 and to add 1,000 potential stem cell donors to the Anthony Nolan Trust and associated registers.

They are asking walkers and Bell Ringers to walk the historic Pilgrims Way from Wye to Canterbury Cathedral with ringing at Churches along the route.

If you would like to join in the route is about 14 miles you can email [email protected] and you will be sent all the details. Here are the other address’s hhtp://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/bellringersstrikeback also hhtps://www.facebook.com/allstand2gether

Amazingly the momentum has grown and Julie has been contacted from all over the world and bells will be rung in it’s far flung corners as well as in Britain. Well done to every one who has backed this cause and I really wish her and the team good weather for their walk and hope she reaches her target. More is in the Parish Magazine the June edition is out now for a fantastic 30p. Please support this worthwhile cause.

Thursday 23 June: EU Referendum in Brede Village Hall from 7am to 10pm. Pilates with Laura is at 9.15. in Udimore Community Hall. Brede & Udimore Overseas Group Summer Lunch has been cancelled due to lack of support. This is the 3rd event that has been cancelled, I already mentioned apathy a month or so ago in this column, it is so hard when people organise things, please leave the TV, computers Ipods whatever it is and join in what’s going on. The community needs to come back to life and engage with others, so many say the community spirit has gone. I know this is not necessarily so, please prove me right and support events.

Friday 24 June: We can all breath a sigh of relief as there will be no more canvassing for in or out. We will all have to live with the decision whatever it is.
