Ben Richardson: It really breaks my heart to impart this news. Ben Richardson was a County Commissioner for Scouts in Sussex and a member of Brede PCC was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago and on 25th April was told nothing further could be done. Ben and Joanna were married by Father Martin Harper in the Chapel of the Holy Cross, Conquest Hospital on 26th April. At his request Ben went home that evening and died in the early morning of 27th April. His cheerful smile and outlook will be missed by many not only in this Village but across Sussex. His Funeral will be held at St Georges Church Brede at 1pm on Saturday 14 May. I am sure with me your thoughts and prayers like mine will be with Jo, and the families.

Spring: It has been a strange week with Spring bursting into life all around us and birds pairing up then snow at times coming down quite hard. The Flowers vegetables and creatures must have wondered what was going on or maybe unlike us they knew what was coming.

Queen’s birthday: Hopefully you should have all received your copy of the Pamphlet being delivered to every home in the Village regarding the events for the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations around the Village. Please contact me if you have not received one.

Newsletter: The next Parish Newsletter is being set up and if you would like to mention what your group or society does please email me as above ASAP if you would like to advertise also contact me please so I can give details. The Parish Council would also appreciate a hand giving them out. If you like walking or if you have to walk for a medical reason you might like to help out 3 times a year.

The 7th May Gala Evening: at Udimore Community Hall has sadly been cancelled due to lack of support. This is the 3rd event cancelled in Udimore and it is such a shame. People work incredibly hard to try and entertain as well as raise money for causes; in this case it was to refurbish St Mary’s Church Udimore. Is it that the TV is so absorbing on a Saturday night or the tablet or computer? I have heard it over & over recently that the Community Spirit has left the Village in this case we were talking about Udimore but it has also been said about Broad Oak & Brede. However, the people who jumped at the chance to do something for the community for the Queen’s 90th Birthday certainly have the Community Spirit so it would be nice if all the events for all the different age groups in the Pamphlet were fully supported and please pray for good weather for 11th & 12th June the latter being when we have our Picnic in the recreation ground with live music.

Now the week ahead.
