Spooky Trout: Firstly Paul and Tina from the Rainbow Trout said that the Halloween Party was very well attended on Friday and was a good night, sorry I got the dates muddled and therefore omitted it from last week’s piece. The Bonfire and Fireworks display was also a big success, helped by the weather clearing just in time! A big thank you to the Rainbow Trout for organising this for the village, to everyone who helped out and to those who brought along firewood. Also a special thank you to the sponsors, both local companies, Neville Goddard Agricultural Mechanics and Crusader Vehicle Hire (Chris Apps).

Poppy appeal: This year’s Poppy Appeal is now in full motion, if you are able to give any assistance from now until Remembrance Day with the selling of poppies from house to house please contact Beryl Crouch Tel. 01424 882120 who would be very pleased to hear from you! In the area covered by Brede, Broad Oak and Udimore there are only a handful of commercial premises where the Poppy tray can be left, so the majority of the collection comes from house to house contributions. Another way you can help the local appeal is to attend the Cranbrook Town band concert on Thursday 4 December 7.45pm in Brede Village Hall; you can be assured of a good evening with some carols thrown in.

Friday 7 November: Pilates is in Udimore Community Hall at 9am. Brede Farmers Market, a place where local people create or produce products for sale, is open from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall. The Wea Practical Gardening: is in Udimore Community Hall, 11.15am – 1.15pm. Brede’s Short Mat Bowlers set up at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall.

Sunday 9 November: Church Services: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass service at 9.00 am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road, if you need to contact the Father his number is 01424 773125.

St George’s Church begin their Family service is at 9.30am, followed by a Remembrance Service at 10.45 and Father Martin can be reached on 01424 883408. The Broad oak Methodist Church will be holding their service from 10.30am, C. Jones will take the service. St Mary’s Church, Udimore morning’s worship is at different times so please look at their Church notice board or in the Parish Magazine. Live Music with Party Favourite Ratpack singer Mr Swing from 7pm at the Rainbow Trout.

Rainbows meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall, this afternoon from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, Brownies meet from 5pm – 6.30pm for girls 7-11 years old. Beavers are In the Scout Hut and welcome Boys and girls from 6 years old they meet from 5.30pm to 6.30pm Cubs meet from 6.30 – 8.00pm. the latter group has vacancies for children to join, the Contact is Colin 01424 852413. Tuesday 11 November: Flu Vaccination Sessions are available in Northiam today. and also on 13 November with the final session 21 November. Pilates are in Udimore Community Hall today at 9am. In Brede Village Hall the Painting for Pleasure group meet at 9.30am. The mobile library visits Oakhill Drive 3pm – 3.40pm then Reedswood Road 3.50pm- 4.15pm. In the Rainbow Trout the Villagers Evening at the pub begins at 8.30pm with Roll over Bingo and a chance of winning the big cash prize.

Wednesday 12 November: Brede WI meet at 2pm in Brede Village Hall; today it is their AGM and it will be followed by Lucy Pappas from St Michael’s Hospice and she will be telling the group about the Hospice Neighbours scheme which was launched nearly two years ago. Yoga in Udimore Community Hall at 7pm

Thursday 13 November: Sally starts her Stretch and Tone: class at 9.30am. Flu Vaccination Sessions are available in Northiam today with the final session 21 November. GP visits Brede Village Hall small room at 12 noon. The Mobile Library visits Brede Village Hall car park at 1.25pm - 1.55pm Brede Friendly Circle meet at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall it is an open meeting which means men are invited too so please go along. The talk being given by Barry Yates this evening is an insight into Rye Nature Reserve. The cost for visitors is £3.00. Friday 14 November: Pilates is in Udimore Community Hall at 9am. Saturday 15 November: Brede Crafters are holding a Craft Fair with lots of lovely stalls laden with plenty of presents to buy in Brede Village Hall from 10am – 2pm. The National Trust Rye and District Association are holding a Quiz Night in Beckley Village Hall please contact Julie Etches for more information and to book 01424 882054.

Thursday 20 November: The VI O’Clock Club presents The Cameo Opera an indoor Glynbourne at Brede Village Hall 7 for 7.30pm start tickets are £12 each. Have your 4 course picnic in the auditorium; there is a prize for the best dressed table; the latter can be any size. Tickets are available from Penny Dawson 01424 882263.

Christmas Tree Festival: This year’s Christmas Tree Festival will take place during the weekend 6th 7th 8th December 2014 in St. George’s Church, Brede. If you would like to submit a Christmas tree decorated using the theme of Christmas Round the World, please contact, Vicki at The Rectory 01424 883408 Should you feel daunted by the task of decorating a tree then why not make an evergreen wreath to decorate the pillars of the church! Once again the weekend will be extremely festive and full of fun and will open on Friday 5th December at 7.00pm with a Christmas Concert, which will include a performance by Mad Jacks Mummers and a contemporary Nativity by the students from Bexhill High, followed by carols. Tickets for this event, which include a drink and mince pie/ sausage roll, are £7.50 adult & £3 primary school children. These will be available from The Rectory or the Friday Farmers’ Market in Brede. Saturday 7 December the Festival will be open from 10am - 4pm. There will be an opportunity to purchase gifts from Christmas stalls and savour seasonal refreshments throughout the day. At 2.15 St. Nicholas will process through the village arriving at St. George’s Church for an hour of festive fun. Do come along and meet St. Nick and take part in the activities around the trees. Sunday 8 December the Festival will open after the Eucharist at 10.30am and finish with a Festive Tea after the 3pm Christingle Service. St Georges Bell Ringers will again have their Lights of Love Tree switched on outside the church during December and into the New Year. Should you wish to donate a light in memory of a loved one it will be possible to do so throughout the weekend or you contact Andrew Burchett on 01424 882727. Whatever the weather refreshments will be on sale each day and there will be plenty of opportunity to from purchase the stalls.

The Rainbow Trout: are very pleased to say that as of last week, they are now full for Christmas Day! The other dates leading up to Christmas are also filling up fast, so please book soon to avoid disappointment. A thank you to our Boules Team. They have never played before and took on the challenge of representing the pub in the summer in the Rye Pentanque / Boules league. They came on leaps and bounds and ended up around the middle of the table. They really enjoyed it and we hope that they will be up for repeating it next summer. This newspaper is running their annual Pub of the Year Competition, with a form in the paper to fill in and nominate. Whilst we know it usually goes to pubs in Hastings Old Town or the like, it would be great to get some nominations for us out here in the country!
