Bus services: I am sure that you will have heard by now of the significant loss of bus services proposed for the Hastings area. The proposal is currently out for consultation until September 28th. There is great concern about everyone who will be affected. The Question asked is do they (The bus companies and funders) care about the consequences to those residents and businesses whose future will be affected. It is feared not, and therefore meetings are being held to address the problem. Sarah Owen Labour Mp for Hastings and Rye and John Hodges are willing to come and speak to the villagers of Brede and Broad Oak about the campaign to preserve the bus services of Hastings and the surrounding areas. Friday 15 August: Wea Practical Gardening: the course is from 11.15 – 1.15pm both events are in Udimore Community Hall.

Brede Farmers Market: the indoor market opens from 10am –12pm giving two hours two browse and do the important weekend shop locally in Brede Village Hall.

Short Mat Bowls: the group meets at 7.30pm also in Brede Village Hall.

Sunday 17 August: Church Services St Georges Church Brede holds the Family Eucharist at 9.30am. The Methodist Church will begin their service at 10.30am in Broad Oak. Their preacher will be Mrs Dawn Novis. St Mary’s Church Udimore hold their mornings worship at 11.15am.

Brede Cricketers: Last week the Robertsbridge team cried off. This afternoon they play a match against Winchelsea at home 2pm in the recreation ground, as usual hopes are high that our team win and that they have good weather. Here is another amusing cricket result from Andrew. Brede CC v Hastings Wanderers CC August 3rd. “Sure, Brede have been winning lately, but could they do it without E.Avann?” was a question most jealous cricket bores have been asking recently. This weekend that question was taken and stuffed forcibly back down the throats of the doubters as Brede strolled to a 102 run victory against a highly fancied Wanderers outfit. Sent into bat by confident away skipper R.Ralph, Brede made an unusually nervous start. A.R.Fryer was palpably LBW to the skiddy Ashand, F.Ulmann well caught of the bowling of Ling and T.Waters incredibly limply bowled before they had mustered 50. S.Turner with a few lusty blows seemed to be turning the tide but when he was bowled by the cunning Ralph disaster seemed imminent. Pete Watts resplendent in original red and black halved Brede cap and G.Avann who had been quietly going about his business while wickets tumbled around him then took the aforementioned tide and forced it back like King Canute if he had pulled on a pair of cricket flannels in favour of his usual regal garb. With Watts (37*) dealing brutally with anything short and the princely G.Avann (96*) tough on anything he could reach they put on an unbroken partnership of 121 as Brede finished on an impressive 177-5. The missing E.Avann, who was holidaying at the Emirates, was but a distant memory. Most people would bask in the glory of a big personal score and take it easy in the field for the rest of the afternoon, not G.Avann. The little man with the huge heart crumpled the Wanderers top order with the first two balls of the innings before he decided he had done enough and strolled off the pitch to partake in a bit of football (Ughhh!) five a side down the road. This brought S.Turner to the bowling crease who cranked up a right rare pace from the school end. The idiosyncratic Turner picked up 3 wickets and forced the dangerous Johnson to retire, cracked on the finger by a wicked lifter. Operating from the celebrated pond end was T.Waters, as stingy and testing as ever, the wafer thin medium pacer finished with figures of 9-2-18-2. Fielding as always was of the highest calibre with “Ol’ Buckethands” D.Grayston clasping a catch at third man with a nonchalance that bordered on arrogance, C.Waters diving forwards with excellent effect to dismiss Hurrell, Brown bravely spilling a difficult chance in the gulley and the ever dependable N.McDonagh covering a vast acreage on the leg side. Brede looked on course for an easy victory but they had failed to take into account one of their own, I.Sutton, loaned to the Wanderers for the day. Starting carefully Sutton soon unveiled his renowned shovel to the left of square leg and looked set to frustrate the Brede attack but with Hastings Wanderers only 102 runs adrift A.Ling selfishly slogged and was bowled by mystery spinner C.Waters leaving Sutton high and dry on 7* and gifting the game to the BCCer’s. This left P.Shellard and his mischievous leg spin unused disappointing a hearty crowd; which included the infamous former umpire D.Cole. Brede CC 177-4 Hastings Wanderers CC 75 all out. Monday 18 August: Age Uk East Sussex – Brede Community Club: the club runs from 10.30am – 3.30pm the group will be discussing news topics, Dominoes, and Jigsaws then at 2pm COUNTRY MUSIC with Richard, visitors are welcome to come and join the afternoon music, a small donation would be appreciated. Tuesday 19 August: Pilates is in Udimore Community Hall at 9am. Painting for Pleasure is at 9.30am. Pilates the group begin at 9am in Udimore Community Hall. Mobile Library is in the village visiting Oakhill Drive from 3.00pm-3.40pm. It will then make its way to Reedswood Road and will be parked there from 3.50pm-4.15pm. Bingo, the Villagers Evening at the Rainbow Trout begins at 8pm.

Wednesday 20 August: Yoga the exercise class stretching your limbs begins at 7.00pm in Udimore Community Hall.

Thursday 21 August: Doctors Surgery 12 noon in the side room of Brede Village Hall. Mobile Library will be at Brede Village Hall car park from 1.25pm- 1.55pm

Friday 22 August: Pilates begins at 9am in Udimore Community hall. Brede Farmers Market 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall. Florists will be busy putting together about 32 arrangements depicting Children’s books. There will also be a hive of activity putting up tents and preparing for St George’s 35th Flower Festival. ‘Once upon a Time’ A Celebration of Children’s Stories. Many hands are needed for the 3 day event if you have not been collard or offered your help yet please contact Bobby 882549 she and Betty 883430 are running Grannies attic and hope you will have a good clear out. Books, CD’s and DVD’s are needed by Gary 882412 and David need volunteers for car parking 883037 over the 3 days cakes jams chutneys plants and produce would be welcome by stall holders and some need cover for tea and lunch breaks. Brede 35th Flower Festival: the event is open 23,24 &. 25 August not to be missed.

Art Exhibition: The Pleasure for Painting group are putting on an art exhibition to show case their hard work. 23 & 25 August 10am – 4pm.

Brede Steam Giants: these marvellous engines will be powered up for you to view 23 and 25 August.
