Hastings Welsh Society are organising a bus trip to Whitstable on Saturday 12 July. If any one in the Village would like to join them on the trip the bus will stop in the village and the cost will be £ 22.00 per person including tip. It may be less if the coach is filled. Those who attended the Teddy Bear Parachute on Sunday had a fantastic time. As the bears and other soft toys were thrown from the tower they parachuted this way and that courteously of the wind with some landing on the roof and some in the trees, not to worry along came Colin, Hero of the day, with his extra long canes tied together and Father Martin holding his legs to support him all little and big bears were retrieved. A shout from the tower heralded the flying pink pig, which required two parachutes; it swung from side to side but eventually landed safely. An army of local cooks made wonderful cakes to go with afternoon tea. The garden games were also popular. A big thank you to all who made, gave and went to the event

The people that travel on the Battle Community Bus to Sainsbury’s on a Monday have asked me to tell others the time as their numbers are dwindling and there is a fear the bus will stop. The times are for Broad Oak to Sainsbury’s, Broad Oak Furnace Lane 9.30am, Brede Village Hall 9.32am and Brede Red Lion at 9.33am. I have seen it in Reedswood Road and it is a hail and ride service. It arrives at 9.50am and leaves Sainsbury’s at 11.30am arriving back in Brede about 11.41am and Broad Oak 11.45am. Friday 4 July Pilates begins at 9am then the Wea Practical Gardening Course is from 11.15 – 1.15pm both in Udimore Community Hall, Brede’s weekly Farmers Market is open from 10am –12pm in Brede Village Hall, offering a vast range of food and goods. In the same venue at 7.30pm the Short Mat bowlers will be aiming for the jack hoping for accuracy.

Saturday 5th July Brede Village Dance at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall. Trip the light fantastic to waltzes, foxtrots, Tango’s and of course quick steps, then take a whirl around the floor in the sequence dancing, followed maybe by a cha cha cha, rumba or samba. Whatever you do I’m sure you will have a good time.

Sunday July 6 the Family Eucharist begins at 9.30am in St Georges Brede. Mrs J Winnington will be leading this mornings worship at the Methodist Church beginning at 10.30am in Broad Oak.

Brede CC v Northiam CC

You can rely on very few things in life, death, taxes and an impressive Brede fielding display being the oft quoted examples, that is until a ramshackle first hour in the field almost put paid to the home team’s chances last Sunday. Poor out cricket resulted in Northiam making a rapid start even though they were faced with the usual fashionably long grass in the outfield. Maybe the temporary absence of vice skip G.J.Dinning bravely fighting fires upset the rest of the team, whatever the captain was furious. Gradually though Brede worked their way back into the game with G.Avann picking up 4 wickets and T.Waters 3, before E.Avann pulled off his keepers gloves and mopped up the tail. A.R.Fryer also enjoyed himself taking 3 catches. Northiam finished on 176 with T.Martin the pick of the batsman with a burly 52.

Brede made their usual good start in reply, E.Avann and A.R.Fryer nudging the score up to 64 in response to some searching Northiam bowling before they were parted. This brought G.Avann to the crease and the twin brothers were soon peppering the boundary boards bringing up a stand of 61 before George was surprisingly dismissed caught on the rope at the pond end. Any thoughts of a Northiam recovery were soon scotched though by a rugged 13 from C.Waters and the continued excellence Of E.Avann who threaded the ball though the field with as much care as a Savile Row tailor hard at work on a bespoke jacket as he compiled a silky unbeaten 100. With Avann in such splendid form victory was a formality as Brede took revenge for a harrowing defeat against the same opponents earlier in the season.

In the Scout Hut Beavers begin at 5.30pm to 6.30pm and from 6.30 – 8.00pm Cubs. Both of the latter groups have vacancies for children to join them

Guides meet at Udimore Hall at 7.15pm.

The Whist players will be together In Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm for their weekly game of cards.

Tuesday 8 July At 9am Pilates is in Udimore Community Hall. Brede Paining for Pleasure group is in Brede Village Hall this morning at 9.30am and at 2pm Vocality Choir tune up their vocal chords and sing through the afternoon. The Mobile Library visits Oakhill Drive at 3pm and Reedswood Road at 3.50pm. This evening it is eyes down for Bingo in the Rainbow Trout.

Wednesday 9 July the Brede WI meeting at 2pm will be an open meeting to which husbands, partners and friends are welcome to join in with them. The topic is Afghanistan Veteran with Sally and Brin. Sally will be recounting Brin’s journey as a stray dog whose bravery and contribution saved lives of the British Forces. The WI hope lots of visitors will join them to hear this incredible story. Art and Faith join artist Matthew Burrows at his Udimore Studio to explore this topic, it is from 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Thursday 10 July Stretch and Tone at 9.30am with Sally in Brede Village Hall. At the side of the Hall the Doctors Surgery is at midday in the side room of Brede Village Hall. Brede Friendly Circle are meeting at 11am at Brede Village Hall Once transport is sorted for every one they will be heading for Pashley Manor for a day out. Lets hope the weather is good for them. Their next meeting is in September. The Mobile Library visits Brede in the Village Hall car park at 1.25pm.
