Following the May Parish Council meeting there are a number of important things to tell you. PCSO Richard Perchance informed the Council of the SCAMS: this one is particularly nasty as the scammer on the phone claims to be a policeman, he persuades you that there is a problem with your bank cards, you are asked to give the number, sort code and PIN. He or she then says they will come and collect you and take you to the bank, they do this then make you draw out lots of money. PLEASE, Please, DO NOT ever give the name of your bank, your sort code to anyone at all especially over the phone and never tell ANYONE your PIN. One elderly person has been scammed for £100,000 I have not exceeded the noughts!!

Scam Mail. Is someone you know being targeted, receiving lots of letters? Secretive about mail and finances or sending money to claim a prize? If you are concerned phone the Police 0n 101

Shed break ins, Power tools are the target, protect your property. Be nosy on behalf of your neighbours and if you see something you think suspicious dial 999 especially if you know they are out or away.

Heating & diesel oil theft is on the increase. Sussex Police have a leaflet of the same name. They suggest serious consideration to where you site your tank, is it visible, does it have easy access? Using very strong close shackle padlocks, which bolt croppers cannot find a good grip, control switches that stop the flow when the tank is not in use, an oil level gauge which sets off an alarm if the oil in the tank suddenly drops, security lights and defensive planting all help. I have mentioned Operation Crackdown before; they would still appreciate our help in targeting anti social driving. Please contact 01243 642222 if you see anyone speeding and you can safely take the registration number, colour and make of car. Things to look out for are drivers under the influence of drink or drugs, using mobile phones at the wheel, not wearing a seat belt and untaxed or unsafe vehicles. If you are driving and a passenger is with you ask them to phone with the information.

Sussex Police have leaflets about all the above.

Also at the Parish meeting Councillor Carl Maynard told us that the brown bins were being steadily rolled out to those who want them and another letter will be sent before the next alteration to our waste collection, which is saving the county a huge sum of money. The Bexhill Link road is ahead of schedule and should be finished by May 2015. Pot holes are going to be filled in sooner than later thanks to some money from the government.

Lesley, the Clerk, had a letter from the Dogs Trust, they are happy to attend an event and do dog chipping for free. Contact Lesley if you would like more information. The Library service is holding a consultation period, it looks like they want to stop the mobile unit visiting Oakhill Drive and the visits will be every three weeks instead of the two, there are forms to sign to give your view, again speak to Lesley or they might be in the shops.

WHAT’S ON: Friday 9 May Pilates begin at 9am in Udimore Parish Hall. The Farmers Market in Brede Village Hall from 10am – noon selling a wonderful array of Hand made cards as well as a stock of produce and goods.

Saturday 10 May The Brede big Steam Giants are open from 10am – 4pm in Waterworks Lane, Brede. Entrance is usually free. At 9.30am the Blackbrook Garden Centre’s talk today is about climbers for all occasions, the cost is £2.00 and includes coffee.

Sunday 11 May at 9.30am the Family Eucharist begins at St Georges Brede The Methodist Church has the Reverend J Michael Ward leading this mornings worship at 10am. The first three games of the cricket club were cancelled and they began at Burwash, hopefully our cricketers are in action again this time at home against Beckley. If you wish to watch the game it begins at 2pm at the recreation ground. The Rockitmen will be In the Rainbow Trout bar from 7pm so that you can dance away the evening or just sit, relax and listen.

Monday 12 May Age UK East Sussex – Brede Community Club is open at 10.30am and begins with coffee news, darts, board games all followed by lunch then exercises with Zena.

This evening begins with the Rainbows in the small hall at 4.00pm followed by the Brownies at 5.30pm.

In the Scout Hut, the Beavers begin at 5.30pm to 6.30pm, then from 6.30 – 8.00pm there is Cubs. As yet there is still no Scout section as we still urgently require leaders or people who wish to do the training. Please contact me if you are interested in helping. Guides meet at Udimore Hall at 7.15pm. In Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm the Whist Players meet, please come along and enjoy a game of cards.

Tuesday 13 May the Brede Painting for Pleasure group will begin to paint at 9.30am in Brede Village Hall. Pilates begins at 9am in Udimore Hall. The Mobile Library, visits Oakhill Drive at 3pm and Reedswood Road at 3.50pm.

The Rainbow Trout holds it’s Local Night in the bar, this evening it is eyes down for Bingo at 8pm as it will be every other Tuesday.

Wednesday 14 May Brede WI are having a Resolutions meeting from 2pm at Brede Village Hall. Their Speaker is local Author Sally Gardner talking about a Writers Journey. Then Yoga is at Udimore Hall at 7pm.

Thursday 15 May Stretch and Tone at 9.30am with Sally in Brede Village Hall.

Doctors Surgery 12 noon in the side of the Hall. The Mobile Library visits Brede in the Village Hall car park at 1.25pm. Design with Flowers meet at 1.30pm until 3.30pm in the Parish Room in Waterworks Lane. They will be having a leaf manipulation demonstration by Chris Ovary. Visitors £3.00, please phone Sue Sturmey 01424 882544 if you wish to go along to this meeting as foliage will possibly be supplied and if they do not know the numbers there may not be enough to go around.

Friday 16 May Pilates begin at 9am in Udimore Parish Hall. The weekly Farmers Market in Brede Village Hall is open from 10am –12pm. Short Mat Bowls are in the Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm. WEA Gardening course continues in Udimore Hall at 10.30am

Future Events:

Saturday 17 May 1st Anniversary of Paul and Tina being landlords of the Rainbow Trout, and to help them celebrate they have organised fun events all day long including a Bouncy Castle, tombola and live music. There will be a plant Sale in the Brede Village Hall at 10am.

Wednesday 28 May The Friends of St George’s are holing their AGM in the Church. They will be providing chesses and wine afterwards. If you would like to become a member please go along and speak to any members of the committee.

Thursday 29 May everyone is welcome to attend the Village Hall Committee meeting at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall.

Saturday 31 May ‘Musical for a Summers Evening.’ Presented by Gary Marriott and Duncan Reid it will be in aid of St George’s Church Brede where it will also be held at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8.50 and include a finger buffet and a glass of wine. Tickets are available from Marion Firman 01424 751165
