More Good News the Post Office services have resumed from 11am – 1.00pm on Friday mornings in Broad Oak General Stores. Villagers are asked to support it. The more it is used then the service hours may expand, underused and it may be lost forever.

Unfortunately the St George’s Summer Newsletter by Steve Edwards did not make it to the Parish Magazine an abridged version is below.

Following the Success of Jesus Christ Super Star in St George’s Church, it is hoped that the performers will return in October with their version of ‘Oklahoma’. Funds to repair the Church clock on the Tower have almost reached it’s goal thanks to the effort of Andrew Burchett and his team. Many thanks, to all who contributed in any way and made this possible. It is hoped that the Clock will be repaired in time for the Flower Festival. This years theme is in ‘Tribute in Memory of Betty May who sadly died earlier this year and in thanks to Sylvia Butler who has retired after 30 years of jointly organising the flowers. As the church room no longer exists refreshments and stalls will be available at the Scout Hut with parking in the adjacent field.

In June The Lord Bishop of Chichester, The Right Reverend Martin Warner laid the foundation stone for the new Rectory, this was followed by a short service and Children from Brede School joined in and sang several songs. Completion is expected by the end of September and will provide Father Martin and future Rectors a much-needed presence at St Georges as well as a proper office enabling the Rector to have confidential meetings or prayer with anyone in the Parish.

A very early reminder that the Christmas Tree Festival will be held in St George’s on the First weekend in December (6-8) there are still some vacancies for trees if anyone or any group wishes to take part and decorate a tree. Contact Vicki Harper 01424 883408 the Theme is Christmas past/ Christmas future. Intercessions are held on the 3rd Sunday of every month when prayers are said by name for all those who are ill or in some sort of need. If you are aware of anyone who needs a prayer said for them please contact Father Martin 01424 883408.

Monday 12 August Brede Parish Council met for two planning applications, then as the whole Councillors were expected an emergency meeting was slotted in for an application from BOB’s to put more play equipment on the Recreation Ground. It was decided to have an inspection of the proposed site. While we were out the Parish Clerk beckoned to the Councillors to go to her; she explained she had a phone call saying glass was in the field. It turned out it was a an electric fluorescent light tube and it covered a wide area of the recreation ground between the two seats close together, it had been well trodden into the grass. The whole area has to be dug up and grass relayed because of this mindless vandalism that puts young people at risk if they fall on to it. Do Parents know what their offspring are up to of an evening?
