Saturday 15 June Holy Communion will be celebrated in St George’s Church at 9am.

Sunday 16 June Father’s Day; Join in the Family Sung Eucharist at St George’s Church Brede at 9.30am, or the Trinity Methodist Church Broad Oak at 10.30am Mrs J Winnington is the Preacher. Our Cricketers will be playing against Mountfield in an away match beginning as usual at 2pm I hope they have more luck securing a team as they had to cancel their match against Westfield due to lack of players. Especially for Father’s Day Eamon Mason will be the singer in the Rainbow Trout this afternoon from 4pm – 6pm.

Monday 17 June In Brede Village Hall Age Uk Daycentre will begin at 10.30am in time for coffee and after lunch they will participate in Zena’s armchair exercises. If there is anyone who can spare an hour or two to help out at the centre Maureen would be very pleased to hear from you, call her on 01424 883282. Rainbows meet at 4pm and later at 5.30pm Brownies begin both groups meet in the Small Hall. In the evening in the main Hall at 7.30 the Whist Players will be busy shuffling their cards.

Thursday June 20. The Stretch and Tone group meet at 9.30am in Brede Village Hall. The Rainbow Trout new Parent & Toddler group meet after the school run about 9am, coffee and cakes are available for the parents. Toddlers can play in the indoor children’s corner or outside on the play equipment if the weather is good. It is good for Mum’s to have a support network. (Dad’s too)

Sat 22 June The Association of Rye & District National Trust are holding a Summer Picnic in Smallhythe Place from 5pm and following at 6pm a performance in The Barn Theatre of Celebrating Shakespeare. A lighthearted romp with the Bard devised by Peter Mould. It promises to be amusing and entertaining. Event tickets £12.00 per person from Ros Adkin by returning the order form in the last Newsletter or by calling 01797 253763. They can also be obtained from the Reception desk at Smallhythe Place prior to the event. Numbers are limited so it is important to act fast and place your order now.

Review of Crowns and Coronets

Many People from the village converged on the Village Hall for the evening’s wonderful entertainment celebrating the 1950’s and the 60th Anniversary of the Queen. Duncan Reid played the Keyboard and he rattled the keys so that the large audience would be quiet for Mike Bendell to begin his Master of Ceremonies which he did with a Yorkshire accent, throughout the evening it changed to questionable German, French and his own accent It was very amusing. ‘Vocality.’ began the entertainment with a medley from Kiss me Kate and the King and I. The group meet in Udimore Hall on a Wednesday afternoon every other week, they will be resuming in September if any one is interested please call Duncan Reid 01424 882412 or Nadia Florence Marshall 01424 882948 The solo singers Jan reeves, Mike Bendell, Gary Marriott and Verity Page were all in fine voice. Gary Steele’s No one likes a Fairy when she’s 40 had everybody in fits of laughter as did Goldilocks and the three bears, the monologues from Jo Page and Mary Barratt and the sketch from Bobby Boud and Julie Etches. We felt the frustration Bobby had trying to buy a cup of coffee. It was a bit too true. Maggie Wharton presented Nursery Rhymes with their meanings and how they began, very interesting and amusing. Grace Cary had us singing her version of ‘Three men in a boat.’ The evening ended with the usual Patriotic songs and God Save the Queen and the waving of Union flags. A good time was had by all.

Grateful thanks go to Mr and Mrs Vickary at Manor Farm for hosting the event to raise money to repair the Church Clock. The ambience was wonderful as was the nibbles provided by them and other guests, it was lovely for so many people in the village to meet and support the two events. The latter raised £645.00; which was absolutely fantastic, well done!
