Be aware of problems on the A28 road at Westfield as from next Monday, October 29 for the rest of the week. Resurfacing work is due to be carried out between Freshfields Farm Shop and the crossroads at the Westfield Car Sales showroom. The road is being closed to through traffic but hopefully the side roads will still be accessible. This will mean considerable alterations to the bus schedules both on this side and the Hastings side of Westfield. On the Monday and Tuesday, October 29 and 30, buses will continue from Hastings to Westfield, then use Vicarage Lane and Wheel Lane to get to Sedlescombe and back to Cripps Corner and Broad Oak before returning to the normal route to Tenterden. There will be no buses at all through Brede on these two days. For the three days from Wednesday to Friday, October 31 to November 2, services will go direct to Sedlescombe then via Wheel Lane back to Westfield before joining the regular route to Tenterden. There will be no buses using Westfield Lane on these three days. Road diversions are being signposted taking you through Cripps Corner. Bearing in mind that you might meet buses or abnormally high amounts of traffic through the lanes please be very careful around the Westfield to Hastings area during this period. After the roadworks are done nearly all the buses will be stopping at Sainsbury’s again but only on the main road – not inside the store’s car park.

Brede Crafters are holding their next meeting on Wednesday, October 31, in the Village Hall at 2.00 pm. Their Craft Fair this year is on Saturday, November 17, so make a note of the date. A wide variety of items will be available suitable for that unique Christmas present.

Next Saturday, November 3, there will be another Village Dance from 7.30 pm at the Village Hall. The programme as usual will include favourite dances from ballroom, sequence, Latin to line dancing. Entrance is £3.00.

The Conservative candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, will be attending a special lunch at the Brickwall Hotel, Sedlescombe on Friday, November 9, where she will be speaking and answering questions. The Six O’Clock Club will be paying a return visit to the Village Hall on Thursday, November 22, for another evening of popular operatic items given by Cameo Opera. Tickets are £12 and can be obtained from Penny Dawson by calling 01424-882263. Bring your own food to picnic during the evening, best-dressed table competition with tables of any size.

The Mobile Library calls again next week on Tuesday, October 30, from 3.00 to 3.40 pm in Oakhill Drive and 3.50 to 4.25 pm in Reedswood Road. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, November 1, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. Apart from reading books, the Library has audio books as well as access to the internet and reference library.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week are a Family Eucharist at 9.30 am on Sunday, October 28, with Holy Communion on Wednesday, October 31, at 10.00 am.

Trinity Methodist Church will be holding their regular Service on Sunday, October 28 at Broad Oak at the usual time of 10.30 am, with the Revd. Peggy Heim conducting the service.
