Brede village voice

The Jubilee Bench is due to be handed over at the Recreation Ground on Sunday, September 9, at 1.00 pm, then followed by Brede Cricket Club’s last home game for this season when they will be playing Bodiam.

The Club’s remaining games are away to Lydd on September 16 and finishing against Winchelsea on September 23.

September brings the start of new programmes for local organisations and next week both the Women’s Institute and the Friendly Circle have their first meetings of the autumn. The W.I. will be at the Village Hall on Wednesday, September 12, 2.00 pm, for a talk by Charlotte Moore entitled ‘A Romance of Victorian Sussex’. The competition will be for a significant letter. Brede Friendly Circle’s meeting is on Thursday, September 13, starting at 7.30 pm, also in the Village Hall. The speaker will be Julian Porter, curator of Bexhill Museum. New members and friends are welcome to both meetings.

Just a reminder about the Brede Scout Group details for the coming year. If there are any boys or girls who would like to join either the Brede Cubs or Brede Beavers both will be starting next Monday, September 10. The groups run during term-time only on Mondays at the Scout Hut in Stubb Lane with the Beavers meeting from 5.30 to 6.30 pm and Cubs from 6.30 to 8.00 pm. Age groups are 6-8½ years for Beavers or 8-10½ years for Cubs. A 60’s/70’s Dance Night is being held in Udimore Community Hall on Saturday, September 15, from 7.00 to 11.00 pm. Music will be from the period, prizes for the best dressed outfits. Tickets are £5.00 adults or £2.50 children. Please call 07761-730956 to reserve your ticket as numbers are limited.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week are a Family Eucharist at 9.30 am on Sunday, September 9, with Holy Communion on Wednesday, September 12, at 10.00 am and Saturday, September 15, at 9.00 am..

Trinity Methodist Church will be holding their Harvest Festival service on Sunday, September 9 at Broad Oak at the usual time of 10.30 am, which this week will be conducted by the Revd. Robin Roberts.
