Brede village voice

Thanks must go to everyone who helped or contributed in some way whether it was dealing with the flowers or working on the stalls. Due to the changes this year the car stewards took on a greater responsibility monitoring the main road traffic which at times can be very busy. Also, thanks to the Scouts for the use of their hall during the Festival.

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 1, there is another Village Dance from 7.30 pm at the Village Hall. The programme as usual will include favourite dances from ballroom, sequence, Latin to line dancing. Entrance is £3.00. Brede Mothers’ Union will be visiting Berwick Church for their next meeting which is on Wednesday, September 5.

Brede Cricket Club are playing away against The Legion this Sunday, September 2, starting at 1.00 pm. Next week they return to the Recreation Ground to play Bodiam, again starting at 1.00 pm.

The Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Bench that was purchased thanks to donations from members of the public, the Parish Council and Rother District Council, has been designed and made by Chris Allum here in Broad Oak. It will be located on the Recreation Ground and the Jubilee Committee would like to invite all to the official first “sitting” and photo opportunity on Sunday, September 9, at 1.00 pm. You will be quite welcome to stay on for the cricket when Bodiam will be the visitors.

With the new school term starting in the next few days, if there are any boys or girls who would like to join either the Brede Cubs or Brede Beavers they will most certainly get a lot of fun out of it. The groups run during term-time only on Mondays at the Scout Hut in Stubb Lane with the Beavers meeting from 5.30 to 6.30 pm and Cubs from 6.30 to 8.00 pm. Age groups are 6-8½ years for Beavers or 8-10½ years for Cubs. The Mobile Library calls again next week on Tuesday, September 4, from 3.00 to 3.40 pm in Oakhill Drive and 3.50 to 4.25 pm in Reedswood Road. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, September 6, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. Apart from reading books, the Library has audio books as well as access to the internet and reference library.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week are a Family Eucharist at 9.30 am and Evening Prayer at 6.00 pm on Sunday, September 2, with Holy Communion on Tuesday, September 4, Thursday, 6, and Friday, 7, and Saturday, 8, at 9.00 am and also on Wednesday, September 5, at 10.00 am. A Pets Service is being held at Udimore Church this Sunday, September 2, at 3.00 pm. The next Messy Church is being held on Tuesday, September 4, in Udimore Community Hall at 4.00 pm. It is for all ages and an adult must bring a child or vice versa. Each meeting is themed, has a creative messy activity, sing song and ends with a shared meal. Trinity Methodist Church will be holding their service on Sunday, September 2 at Broad Oak at 10.30 am as usual.
