Brede village voice

St. George’s Church Flower Festival is being held over the weekend from tomorrow, Saturday, August 25 to Bank Holiday Monday, August 27, with the theme of the festival flowers being “The Bible in Colour”.

Opening times are from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on Saturday and Monday and from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm on Sunday which will be followed by Songs of Praise at 5.00 pm. One major change this year is that due to the Church Room not being available for use, the refreshments and the majority of stalls will either be in the Scout Hut in Stubb Lane or its adjoining field.

Also taking place over the weekend is the Brede Painting for Pleasure Group’s Exhibition of Paintings at the Village Hall on Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26, from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Paintings will be for sale and refreshments available. The Brede Giants Pumping Engines are on view again at Brede Waterworks on Bank Holiday Monday from 10 am to 4.00 pm. Parking is free, refreshments and souvenir items are available. New members for the Society are welcome as is anyone who likes working with heritage machinery.

Brede Cricket Club are playing away at Sedlescombe this Sunday, August 26, starting at 2.30 pm. Next week they will be away again in a match again The Legion, but this game begins at the earlier time of 1.00 pm. Brede Crafters will be holding their next meeting on Wednesday, August 29, at 2.00 pm in the Village Hall. Next Saturday, September 1, there is another Village Dance from 7.30 pm at the Village Hall. The programme as usual will include favourite dances from ballroom, sequence, Latin to line dancing. Entrance is £3.00.

Rehearsals for Brede Players’ next production begin in September. They will be presenting “Robinson Crusoe” at the Village Hall on January 11 and 12 and the auditions will be taking place on Thursday, August 30, at 7.30 pm in St. George’s Church. New members are always welcome whether for acting parts or behind the scenes jobs. If you have any surplus paint lying around that you do not want they would like to take it off your hands to be used on creating some more scenery. If you missed the advance warning notices in the local Observers recently about the road closures at Brede Hill for repairs that are scheduled to take place on two days between August 28 and September 2. The usual diversions through Sedlescombe and Cripps Corner will be in operation. You may also run into diversions between Horns Cross and the Kent border at Northiam again due to road repairs. Diversions for some of these works could take you as far as Hawkhurst before getting back to Newenden.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week are a Family Eucharist at 9.30 am and a Festival Songs of Praise at 5.00 pm on Sunday, August 26, with Holy Communion on Tuesday, August 28, Thursday, 30, and Friday, 31, and Saturday, September 1, at 9.00 am and also on Wednesday, August 29, at 10.00 am. A Pets Service is being held at Udimore Church on Sunday, September 2, at 3.00 pm. The next Messy Church is being held on Tuesday, September 4, in Udimore Community Hall at 4.00 pm. It is for all ages and an adult must bring a child or vice versa. Each meeting is themed, has a creative messy activity, sing song and ends with a shared meal. Trinity Methodist Church hold their usual 10.30 am service at Broad Oak this Sunday, August 26, which will be conducted by the Revd. Peggy Heim who will also administer Holy Communion.
