The annual Broad Oak Firefighters’ Fete will be held at the Recreation Ground on Sunday, July 29, from 1.00 pm. This is always a well-supported event with plenty of activities to keep you entertained during the afternoon. Another regular is the NSPCC Garden Party being held on Wednesday, August 1, at Little Monkings, Rocks Hill from 2.30 pm. Both of these would welcome as many people as possible.

Update on the Diamond Jubilee Bench and Photo Book. Firstly, the Bench. Thanks to the Parish Council, Rother District Council and donations from members of the public, it has been able to purchase a commemorative oak bench. This has been designed and made by Chris Allum here in Broad Oak. It will be located on the Recreation Ground and the Jubilee Committee would like to invite all to the official first “sitting” and photo opportunity on Sunday, September 9, at 1.00 pm. You will be quite welcome to stay on for the cricket when Bodiam will be the visitors. The Photo Book is currently being put together and will include a wide variety of pictures of local people, some of the scarecrows, decorations in the village, some of the events that took place and even a Jubilee sheep. If you still have to send in your photo please do so as soon as possible or you can contact Bruni Llovet on 01424-883548 or e-mail [email protected] for further information.

Rehearsals for Brede Players’ next production begin in September. They will be presenting “Robinson Crusoe” at the Village Hall on January 11 and 12 and the auditions will be taking place on Thursday, August 30, at 7.30 pm in St. George’s Church. New members are always welcome whether for acting parts or behind the scenes jobs. If you have any surplus paint lying around that you do not want they would like to take it off your hands to be used on creating some more scenery. Please contact Mike on 07906-059892 or e-mail [email protected] to arrange collection.

The Mobile Library calls again next week on Tuesday, July 24, from 3.00 to 3.40 pm in Oakhill Drive and 3.50 to 4.25 pm in Reedswood Road. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, July 26, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. Apart from reading books, the Library has audio books as well as access to the internet and reference library.
