At Brede School, the F.O.B.S. Summer Fair will be taking place tomorrow, Saturday, May 12, from 1.00 to 4.00 pm. The School now has a recycling facility for unwanted clothing and shoes. Items should be bagged, with shoes tied in pairs.

The container is just by the school playground fence and any proceeds from the collectors goes to the school for their general amenities fund. Also taking place tomorrow at the Village Hall from 10 am until 12 noon is the annual Plant Sale by the East Sussex Fuchsia and Pelargonium Society. A wide selection of plants of all types and varieties will be available.

The promised meeting regarding the proposed 30-mph speed limit through the village will be held at the Village Hall next Thursday, May 17, from 4.00 to 8.00 pm. These proposals will be of interest to nearly everyone, whether driver, cyclist or pedestrian. Details will be on view and no doubt representatives of the Highways are going to be there to answer your questions.

With the appalling weather conditions prevailing most weekends, playing a cricket match will soon become a lost art. Brede Cricket Club should continue their programme on Sunday, May 13 with a game at home to Hastings Wanderers, starting at 2.30 pm and the following week away to Northiam. Perhaps by then things will have improved. The club is always in need of new players so if you are interested please contact either Andy Fryer on 01323-732914 or Graeme Dinning on 07941-228866 who would no doubt be pleased to hear from you.

The A.G.M. of the Friends of St. George is being held on Wednesday, May 16, at 7.30 pm in St. George’s Church. On Sunday, May 20, the garden at 2 Bellhurst Cottages, Chitcombe Road will be open from 2.30 to 5.00 pm in aid of the funds for the Jubilee Celebrations. Entry £1, teas available and plants for sale.

If you are in the vicinity of Broad Oak Stores don’t forget to call in and sign the petition to try and restore post office counter facilities. A list of names of those who support the scheme is being collected and if you can call in and add your name it would be greatly appreciated. The local MP has already pledged to help where she can. If you would like to see the service up and running again then please take the time to call in and sign.

The Mobile Library calls again next week on Tuesday, May 15, from 3.00 to 3.40 pm in Oakhill Drive and 3.50 to 4.25 pm in Reedswood Road. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, May 17, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. Apart from reading books, the Library has audio books as well as access to the internet and reference library.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week will be a Sung Eucharist at 9.30 am on Sunday, May 13, with Holy Communion on Wednesday, May 16 at 10.00am and Thursday, 17, Friday, 18, and Saturday, 19, at 9.00 am. The next Messy Church is being held on Tuesday, June 12, at 4.00 pm in Udimore Community Hall. It is for all ages and an adult must bring a child or vice versa. Each meeting is themed, has a creative messy activity, sing song and ends with a shared meal. This meeting’s theme will be ‘Noah’s Ark’. Trinity Church continues at Broad Oak this Sunday, May 13, where the 10.30 am service will be conducted by the Revd. Peggy Heim who will also be administering Holy Communion.
