Brede village voice

A number of things are planned for tomorrow, Saturday, May 5. Brede W.I. is holding a Coffee Morning at ‘Frewen’, Chitcombe Road, Broad Oak from 10.30 am, parking will be available at the Rainbow Trout opposite.

Cakes, Plant Sale and Bring & Buy will be included. Entrance is £1.50 (including refreshments) and If wet this will take place at the Village Hall. Please go along and support this event as the proceeds are being donated to Age UK East Sussex. Also tomorrow, the Brede Giants Pumping Engines are on view again as well as Bank Holiday Monday, May 7, at Brede Waterworks from 10 am to 4.00 pm. Parking is free, refreshments and souvenir items are available. New members for the Society are welcome as is anyone who likes working with heritage machinery. Another Village Dance is being held at the Village Hall in the evening from 7.30 pm. The programme as usual will include favourite dances from ballroom, sequence, Latin and line dincing. Entrance is £3.00.

With April gone and little or no fine weather to speak of, Brede Cricket Club continue their programme with a game at Burwash next Sunday, May 6, starting at 2.30 pm. The following week their opponents, on Sunday, May 13, will be Hastings Wanderers at Broad Oak.

Brede W.I. will hold their Resolution Meeting next Wednesday, May 9, at 2.00 pm in the Village Hall. The competition is for a childhood photo of yourself. The A.G.M. of the Friends of St. George is being held on Wednesday, May 16, at 7.30 pm in St. George’s Church.

There is no Friendly Circle meeting on Thursday, May 10, as the club is paying a visit to Scotney Castle instead. There are still a few seats on the coach that will be leaving the Village Hall at 10.30 am and returning by about 4.00 pm. The coach will cost £6.50 per person and entry to the Castle and grounds about £12 if you are not a National Trust member. At Brede School, the F.O.B.S. Summer Fair will be taking place on Saturday, May 12, and the School now has a recycling facility for unwanted clothing and shoes. Items should be bagged, with shoes tied in pairs. The container is just by the school playground fence and any proceeds from the collectors goes to the school for their general amenities fund.

On Sunday, May 20, the garden at 2 Bellhurst Cottages, Chitcombe Road will be open from 2.30 to 5.00 pm in aid of the funds for the Jubilee Celebrations. Entry £1, teas available and plants for sale.

You can still book your place for the Brede & Udimore Overseas Group Spring Lunch on Thursday, May 10 in Udimore Community Hall at 12.30 pm. The guest speaker will be Louise Ewington, secretary of the Papua New Guinea Church Partnership, who will be talking about her work. As usual there will be a raffle. Tickets are available from Liz Turgoose (01424-882657) or Judy Edwards (01424-882222) priced £10.00 for the 2-course meal.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week will be a Sung Eucharist at 9.30 am and Evening Prayer at 6.00 pm on Sunday, May 6, with Holy Communion on Tuesday, May 8, and Saturday, May 12, at 9.00 am and Wednesday, May 9 at 10.00 am. The next Messy Church is being held on Tuesday, June 12, at 4.00 pm in Udimore Community Hall. It is for all ages and an adult must bring a child or vice versa. Each meeting is themed, has a creative messy activity, sing song and ends with a shared meal. This meeting’s theme will be ‘Noah’s Ark’. Trinity Church returns to Broad Oak again this Sunday, May 6, where the 10.30 am service will be conducted by Mrs. J. Winnington.
