Brede village voice

The village lost another of its familiar residents a few days ago with the death of Paul Pryke. Well-known amongst the local bowls community, Paul played for Northiam Bowling Club as well as in Hastings. He was also the main organiser of the Champions of Brede since its inception some twenty years ago. The fund has raised many thousands of pounds over the years for the Hall. He was also involved with the Friends of St. George, another organisation that has provided substantial financial support, this time for the benefit of St. George’s Church. He will be sorely missed by not only his family but by many local villagers and friends in the bowling world.

Brede & Udimore Luncheon Club meets again next week on Tuesday, April 24, at 12.30 pm in the Village Hall for their monthly lunch. New members are always welcome and for full details please contact the Secretary, Frances Parnham on 01424-882007. Brede Crafters have their next meeting in the Village Hall on Wednesday, April 25, at 2.00 pm. And if you feel like having a spruce up ready for the season, then you can go along to the Avon Party Nite at the Red Lion on Thursday, April 26, between 6.00 and 10 pm and do a bit of sampling.

Brede Cricket Club continue their new season with a game against Netherfield at the Recreation Ground on Sunday, April 22, starting at 2.30 pm. Next week’s opponents, on Sunday, April 29, will be Mountfield at Broad Oak. Brede & Udimore Overseas Group will be holding a Spring Lunch on Thursday, May 10 in Udimore Community Hall at 12.30 pm. The guest speaker will be Louise Ewington, secretary of the Papua New Guinea Church Partnership, who will be talking about her work. As usual there will be a raffle. Tickets are available from Liz Turgoose (01424-882657) or Judy Edwards (01424-882222) priced £10.00 for the 2-course meal.

Rye & District Association of the National Trust have another one of their walks taking place on Tuesday, April 24. There will in fact be two circular walks, one of 3½ miles in the morning leaving the Plough Inn at Crowhurst at 10.30am and then 4 miles in the afternoon. Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week will be a Sung Eucharist at 9.30 am on Sunday, April 22, a Sung Eucharist at 7.00 pm on Monday, April 23, and Holy Communion on Wednesday, April 25, at 10.00 am and Friday, 27, and Saturday, 28, at 9.00 am. The next Messy Church is being held on Tuesday, May 1, at 4.00 pm in Udimore Community Hall. It is for all ages and an adult must bring a child or vice versa. Each meeting is themed, has a creative messy activity, sing song and ends with a shared meal. This meeting’s theme will be ‘Creation’. Trinity Church continues at Broad Oak with the usual 10.30 am service on Sunday, April 22 which will be conducted by Mrs. C. Thacker. Next week the Church will be joining with Westfield Church congregation.
