Brede village voice

On Easter Saturday, April 7, there will be a Dragon Egg Hunt in the churchyard at St. George’s. This will be starting from the Church Room at 11.15 am. There will be an entrance fee. Also tomorrow, Brede Steam Engine Society has another Open Day at Brede Waterworks. The Giants will be open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm as usual. Free car parking and signposted at the top of Brede Hill. Enthusiasts of historical machinery are always welcome.

Brede Women’s Institute and Brede Friendly Circle both have their meetings next week. The W.I. meets on Wednesday, April 11 at 2.00 pm in the Village Hall for their Birthday Meeting. The competition will be for a favourite recipe. The Friendly Circle’s meeting on Thursday, April 12, will have Andrea Garrick talking about the work of St. Michael’s Hospice. There will also be a sales table for members to contribute any unwanted items that can be sold with the proceeds going to the Hospice. The meeting begins at 7.30 pm and any friends will be welcome.

Another Village Dance is being held at the Village Hall on Saturday, April 14, from 7.30 pm. The programme as usual will include favourite dances from ballroom, sequence, Latin and line dancing. Entrance is £3.00.

The Annual Parish Assembly is being held in the Village Hall on Tuesday, April 17. Following the pattern of the last few years, representatives of local organisations will be there to demonstrate or offer information about their own particular group.

The A.G.M. of Brede Players takes place in St. George’s Church Room on Thursday, April 19, at 7.30 pm. Everyone is welcome, young and not-so-young, both members and anyone interested in joining, either for backstage work or in the spotlights. Refreshments will be served and don’t forget to bring your membership subscription. Call 01424-883548 for any further details.

It may not seem like it, but summer must be on the way with the beginning of the cricket season. Brede Cricket Club open their programme on Sunday, April 15, with a game at the Recreation Ground against Sedlescombe starting at 2.30 pm. They have a full fixture list with matches on every Sunday afternoon. Brede & Udimore Overseas Group will be holding a Spring Lunch on Thursday, May 10 in Udimore Community Hall at 12.30 pm. The guest speaker will be Louise Ewington, secretary of the Papua New Guinea Church Partnership, who will be talking about her work. As usual there will be a raffle. Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week will be a Sung Eucharist at 9.30 am on Sunday, April 8, with Holy Communion on Wednesday, April 11, at 10.00 am and also on Tuesday, April 10, Thursday, 12, Friday, 13, and Saturday, 14, at 9.00 am.

Trinity Church has an Easter Service at Broad Oak this Sunday, April 8, at 3.00 pm. The service will be conducted by the Revd. Peggy Heim who will also administer Holy Communion..
