Brede Players are having their first production of the new season tonight and tomorrow when they will be presenting three short plays in St. George’s Church Room. Tickets can be obtained at £5.00 each from Bobbie on 01424-882549, Tom on 01424-883430 or Bruni on 01424-883548. Refreshments will be available.

Brede Women’s Institute has an extra meeting at the Village Hall this month when they are hosts to the Rother Group on Tuesday, 19th, at 2.30 pm. Rye and District Association of the National Trust will be having a talk given by Michael Lacy about Batemans, Burwash on Thursday, 21st, at 2.30 pm in Beckley Village Hall. Admission is £2.00 (members) and £3.00 non-members and includes refreshments after the talk.

Etchingham Military and Aviation Preservation Group will be returning to the Village Hall on Saturday, 30th, with their Exhibition of Military items ranging from badges, uniforms and weapons to pictures mainly associated with the South East of England. Some vehicles will also be on show. The items cover all the services including the civilian services. The Exhibition opens at 10.00 am and goes on until 4.00 pm, admission £2.00 (accompanied children free). This is a very interesting display and appeals to all ages.

Brede & Udimore Missionary Group will be holding a Coffee Morning on Saturday, 30th, from 10.00 am until 12 noon at the new Udimore Community Hall. The usual variety of stalls will be there. Proceeds go towards the four charities that the Group supports.

Quiz supporters might like to know that the quiz evening held recently at St. Michael’s Hospice raised £400. All supporters and helpers are thanked most sincerely for their efforts. The next Quiz Night at Brede will be on Saturday, 13th November in aid of the RSPCA Wildlife Centre at Fairlight. Tickets are £7.50 including supper and tables can be booked by contacting Elaine Crouch on 01424-883445.

The children at Brede School, following their very successful Harvest Festival, have been taking part in a variety of activities during recent weeks including visits to Bodiam Castle, Bexhill Museum and Great Dixter. They will also be involved in a Creative Partnership project with Northiam and Beckley schools at Great Dixter. There is a vacancy for a kitchen assistant at the School for six hours a week. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Beeching at the School. The current term ends next Friday, 22nd.

This is my 400th column since I started and I hope that the information given has been of interest to you over the years. During this time I have always tried to retain a middle line avoiding any undue criticism of things that have happened in the village. In the future I shall try to continue in the same way and if you have various events that you would like mentioned or indeed the results of such events please let me know.

The Mobile Library visits the village again next week and will be stopping on Tuesday, 19th, at Oakhill Drive from 3.00 to 3.30 pm and at Reedswood Road from 3.40 to 4.15 pm. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, 21st, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. The Library service provides a wide range of things besides reading books including audio books in cassette, cd or some are even in MP3 version, a range of music cd’s and dvd’s as well as its internet access and reference library. Please note these are the new times for the winter period.

This week’s services at St. George’s Church are the Family Eucharist at 9.30 am Sunday, 17th, with Holy Communion on Monday, 18th, at 7.30 pm, Tuesday, 19th, and Friday, 22nd, at 9.00 am and Wednesday, 20th, at 10.00 am.

Trinity Methodist Church continues at Broad Oak this Sunday, 17th, for the usual service at 11.00 am which will be conducted by Mr. Owen Birch.
