The scheme, by Barefoot Wine and environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage, is calling on locals to litter pick, and the team collecting the most rubbish will win a bottle of Barefoot.

The beach clean takes place from 2pm, with volunteers gathering at Hove Lawns, at The Meeting Place café.

Olga Senkina, marketing director at Barefoot Wine, said: “At Barefoot Wine our mission is to make the world a better place through wine and the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project is a great example of how we do this.

“We are delighted to again encourage the Brighton community to come and help us clean their local beach and make the local area a better place for everyone to enjoy in the process. Of course, one of the day’s highlights is raising a toast with a glass of Barefoot Wine to celebrate the hard work of all the volunteers – cheers to that!”

Dom Ferris, head of community and engagement at Surfers Against Sewage, said: “Over the past decade it has never ceased to amaze us how incredible community spirit can be – something we see every year at the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project.

“We’ve already had loads of interest from local volunteers, so can’t wait to get down to Brighton Beach and work with Barefoot and the local community have a great time working towards our vision of plastic free coastlines.”
