Brighton and Hove remembers Manchester attack victims

Vigils were held in Brighton and Hove this morning (May 24), to remember those who died in the Manchester attack on Monday (May 22).

Councillors, residents and council staff stood outside Brighton Town Hall and Hove Town Hall at 10.30am this morning, to observe one minute's silence in remembrance of everyone affected by Monday's attack. Almost 100 people turned up for each event.

Flags on civic buildings flew at half mast, out of respect to the victims.

Cllr Warren Morgan, the leader of Brighton and Hove City Council spoke before the vigil at Brighton Town Hall, and said: "We're here to remember those who lost their lives and stand in solidarity and compassion with their families."

There will be a number of other vigils later today, including another outside Brighton Town Hall, organised by The Hummingbird Project. It will begin at 6.30pm, and speakers will include city councillor Emma Daniel, Green candidate for Brighton Pavilion Caroline Lucas, Richard Williams from Sanctuary on Sea, and Elaine Ortiz from The Hummingbird Project.

A service will be held at Hove Methodist Church from 7pm, honouring all those who have suffered both directly and indirectly from the tragedy in Manchester.

And a vigil will also be held at St Luke's Prestonville on the Old Shoreham Road, Brighton, from 8pm.
