And the University of Brighton has said its Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses have helped the city to win the crown.

The rankings were revealed by the office broking service Instant Offices, which analysed data from Companies House for its survey, and compared it against population estimates and business growth to determine which UK cities are the most entrepreneurial.

Placing Brighton and Hove first, it said: “Brighton has clinched top spot, with its strong creative industry. There’s definitely something in the air and the University of Brighton MBA program... is an enticing proposition for those looking to start their own business in a more relaxed atmosphere then some of the other metropolitan hubs in the UK.”

Instant Offices said: “With its dynamic business environment, solid infrastructure, huge talent pool and vibrant startup culture, it’s no surprise an entrepreneurial spirit persists in the UK.

“By comparing the average population in each city with the number of businesses launched there in two years, we discovered which cities are leading the way.”

John Williams, head of marketing at Instant Offices said: “I can understand the appeal of Brighton and the south coast of England. It is a bit of an antidote to the hustle and bustle of the capital while possessing a strong, creative industry and really appealing to business owners and workers seeking a more relaxed alternative to London.

“Our programme is designed for experienced managers wishing to develop their potential through a truly international experience.
