Brinsbury sets children a cookery challenge

THE CENTRE of excellence for regional food and drink at Brinsbury is ‘delighted’ to support a children’s cookery competition.

The Create and Cook competition has been run in Hampshire for the past four years and was recently launched in West Sussex at the Chichester College campus in Pulborough.

Sponsored by Southern Co-operative the competition is open to secondary schools and aims to find a new budding culinary talent aged 12-14. Phil Ponsonby, chief operating officer for the Southern Co-operative, said: “2012 is particularly exciting with the competition being open to West Sussex schools for the first time.”

The hopefuls are challenged to think about sustainability, food miles and seasonality as they research local ingredients, they then have to create a two course menu around these key ingredients. Entrants have until March 30 2012 to come up with their locally inspired menus.

The finals will be held next summer when a new 2012 champion will be announced. To find out more about the competition visit www.fti2cook.co.uk/createandcook.
