British Red Cross award ceremony

Pamela joined the British Red Cross at Bexhill in March 1942 and during her spectacular sixty six year's of service earned many awards which were specially mounted and framed for the presentation ceremony.

The awards are as follows: Three badges of honour; three British Red Cross long service badges (awarded at 50, 60 and 65 years service); the Queens Silver Jubilee medal; Voluntary Medical service medal; British Red Cross Cap & Lapel badges; British Red Cross V.A.D badge; British Heart Foundation fifteen year long service badge; National Hospital Service Reserve badge.

Pamela, who is a resident of Normanhurst, was presented with her awards by Bexhill's Deputy Mayor Cllr Bridget George.

Clearly overcome Pamela, 82, said: "Words fail me - I've enjoyed my time with the Red Cross and met a lot of people."

During Pamela's time with the Red Cross she had an escorted visit the Buckingham Palace and, although there were no Royals in residence at the time, she said the experience was nevertheless, "quite something".

She added: "The Red Cross has been a life-saver to me."

Visitors to the ceremony and coffee morning also had the opportunity to buy from stalls selling books, clothes, and bric a brac, there was also a tombola. Teas and coffees were served and 114 was raised for the Thalia House Red Cross funds.
