Broken Tunisian dog finds refuge in Sedlescombe

A Sedlescombe woman has given a rescue dog a new life after being left battered and broken in Tunisia.

Carol Limpkin’s heart went out to the German shepherd Jako after seeing a Facebook post asking for someone to take him in.

The owner of K-9 Rescue Remedy said she was touched by the 18-month-old Jako’s story of abuse which left him with three broken legs, a broken hip and severe malnutrition.

“No one was coming forward and my organisation has already taken in one damaged dog in,” she said.

“I’d never seen damage like it, it was horrible.

“I couldn’t believe other human beings could do such a thing to him.

“Something touched me and I couldn’t not help him, so I said I would foster him while he gets better.”

Jako was rescued by Rescue Animals North Africa who wanted him to be fostered in Europe to undergo treatment.

The German Shepherd Hotline then took over the appeal and organised for ‘supervet’ Noel Fitzpatrick to treat him.

He went under the knife on Wednesday, December 23, for numerous injuries which racked up a hefty £10,000 vets bill.

“It’s lovely to see him back on his toes as he should be but he’s still very laboured and has a problem with his hip,” Carol said.

“Fortunately he gets on with my other dogs, especially the youngest who’s also disabled. They keep one another company and have a strong friendship bond.

“He’ll be going to dog club at my kennels which will socialise him. But it’s astounding what a wonderful dog he is. It’s unbelievable considering what he’s gone through and is still a well-rounded dog.

“He’s had quite an ordeal but at least we can try and get him better now.”
