BTEC childcare

Second year BTEC Childcare pupils from Bexhill College visited the Early Years Nursery to organise a waterworld day for the young children.

The day forms a vital part of their final assessment as the placement part of the course can add an additional 120 UCAS points to their final results, equivalent to an extra A level in addition to the 3 the course is comparable to.

The students planned and resourced a whole range of activities in keeping with the aquatic theme. The children aged two to four years were making masks, undersea collages and painting marine creatures fashioned from paper plates and household items.

Later on the fruits of their labours were on full display as a role play and walk around took place to a backdrop of music from the Little Mermaid.

The College students had a whale of a time as they were able to work as a team, plan and resource activities as well as working with some of the special needs youngsters who attend the nursery.

Course tutor Mary Osman said "It's a great opportunity for the students to work as part of a team as they are usually placed individually on placements. As well as working with the special needs children it gives them a chance to enjoy themselves and have fun while gaining valuable experience"
