‘Bubbly’ Britain’s Got Talent star joins up with circus

Circus Wonderland has once again recruited talented Lisa Sampson to wow audiences with her energetic hula skills for its shows at the Adur Recreation Ground.

Mother-of-three Lisa, 35, from Upper Beeding, performed a rocking routine in semi-final four of the show two weeks ago.

Set against the backdrop of an American diner and with a rock and roll soundtrack, Lisa danced across the stage with hoops spinning around her legs, hips, torso, arms and neck. She then used flaming hoops for the first time, before turning into a human slinky.

Despite failing to progress to the grand final, which was won by Jules O’Dwyer and her wonder dog Matisse, she has since been inundated with offers.

Fitness instructor Lisa said: “Sometimes I just think did that really all just happen? It’s been quite an overwhelming experience as well. I’ve achieved lots. It’s definitely been good.

“I wasn’t expecting the amount of positive feedback I got. At times I felt like I shouldn’t be there. I remember feeling a bit beneath everyone. Everyone was just amazing.”

Lisa’s love affair with hula-hooping began after she took her children to a circus workshop.

“I saw them doing it there and I fancied it,” she said. “My daughter had a hula hoop so I tried it with hers.”

She went from hula-hooping around the home to performing to an audience, after a family trip to watch Circus Wonderland two year’s ago.

She said: “I met them just from taking my children to the show. We got talking and I was saying I had tried hula-hooping myself. We became Facebook friends and they started to see the hula-hooping I could do.”

While family commitments mean she is unable to travel with the circus, Lisa is happy to perform with them in Shoreham.

Paul Carpenter, Circus Wonderland director, said: “She’s learnt all on her own how to do the act. What makes her special is her bubbly, zany personality.

“She’s a little retro, a little kooky – just someone you warm to straight away.”

The circus’ shows are running nightly, from Wednesday until Sunday. Lisa will perform every night except Thursday. It is the only time this year the circus will be coming to Shoreham.
