Buckswood School unveils£400,000 improvements

New and improved facilities at the school include a new teaching block consisting of 12 new classrooms, a theatre, domestic science and dining room, academic resource centre and Duke of Edinburgh centre, as well as the addition of 12 new classrooms, each equipped with its own Smartboard.

The Guestling school says the investment reflects its improvement in exam results and increased student numbers.

The new Academic Resource Centre has been kitted out with 64 new computers and will allow students to enjoy the new ICT curriculum which recognises that students must turn from passive consumers, to the programmers and developers of tomorrow.

Courses focus on fundamental ICT skills as well as areas of specific interest such as graphics, animation and programming. Teachers have all undergone training on the 36 Smartboards that have now been installed.

The ICT department will also be running drop-in sessions for students, teachers and parents to learn about specific topics.

School head Giles Sutton developed the new domestic science room and said: “At Buckswood the school motto is ‘we prepare for life’ and I am excited to be able to offer students to the chance to learn to fend for themselves and cook.”

The school will be throwing open it’s doors and welcoming everyone to come and see the new facilities on Saturday November 8 from 10am.
