Bugs '“ the good, bad and ugly

Mr Theo Gedge is an authority on insects and bugs.

Members of Felpham and Middleton Horticultural Society were delighted when he came to talk to them about '˜insects good and bad'.

He kept his audience enthralled as he describe the havoc that some insects and caterpillars can bring to gardens, and what gardeners can do to prevent the carnage.

Unfortunately, due to EU regulations, many of the preventive chemicals are no longer available, but there are still some remedies that can be used.

It was not all bad news as there are some good insects, such as Ladybirds and Lacewings that eat some of the troublesome aphids.

Mr Gedge has written a book on the subject called '˜The Bug Book for Gardeners'.

Members were grateful to him for his fascinating talk.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 7.30pm at St Mary's Centre in Felpham, when Mr Neil Robertson will be talking on '˜Plants we should be growing'.

This talk should be a great help to all gardeners facing our present climatic conditions.
