Before lockdown the operation was based in St John’s Spire Church and Cafe, and when that was closed due to the pandemic, it moved temporarily to provide vital provisions for the soaring number of families in need from the Salvation Army Hall on Cyprus Road.

Hide AdNow, thanks to support from Robert Eggleston and the town council, and town centre developer NewRiver, the foodbank has relocated to a redundant cafe, which has been refurbished largely by town council employees.
A foodbank spokesman said: “From the end of this month we should be able to use the rear of the shop as the depot and distribute from the front.
“It may be a little more public than the Spire was which may deter some people; we shall see. But it will give us a slightly more public presence in the town.
“The latest word is that we should be moving this week with a last distribution from the Salvation Army Hall on Thursday, start distributing from the new premises, 89 Church Walk, on Tuesday, June 30.
