Burgess Hill leisure centre evacuated due to smoke

The leisure centre in Burgess Hill had to be evacuated this morning (Tuesday August 6) because of smoke.

Firefighters were called to the building in Triangle Way just before 8am.

There was a fire around the fan belt of an air conditioning unit but it was out before the emergency service arrived.

Smoke had been channelled by the ventilation system, causing it to enter the changing rooms and swimming pool area.

The building was evacuated and two thermal imaging cameras were used to check for hot spots and fans used to ventilate the building.
