A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the burglary is thought to have occurred in Farhalls Crescent between Saturday November 1 and Sunday November 2.

Thieves smashed a window in a rear door to get in before making an untidy search and stealing the watches.

One was a World War Two watch given to lower ranks, crudely fashioned from base metal and with a cloth strap, and another was a yellow metal watch with a dark red face and digital display. It was issued by the Howard Hughes corporation.

Detectives are appealing for help from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at the scene, or who may be offered some of the stolen items. The value of the watches is not known.
